Who is Refactor Fitness best for?
Refactor Fitness is best for self-led lifters and people getting serious about strength training who want meals, workouts, measured progress, and Spot AI coaching in one app. Put plainly, it's for busy people who want to take their health back and spend their energy where it matters.
Is Refactor Fitness for beginners?
Yes, if you are ready to track consistently. Refactor helps with the planning, tracking, and review details so you can focus your effort on lifting, eating, and sleeping.
Is Refactor Fitness a macro tracker?
Yes. Refactor tracks calories, macros (protein, carbs, and fat), and fiber. You can log meals by search, barcode, saved meal, photo scan, or plain text.
Is Refactor Fitness a workout log?
Yes. Refactor supports workout tracking with sets, reps, weight, cardio, programs, and templates.
How is Refactor different from using separate food and workout apps?
Separate apps split the picture. Refactor keeps meals, lifting, PRs, body measurements, and progress together so Spot analyzes the same history before recommending what to adjust.
How is Spot AI different from asking a generic chatbot?
Spot analyzes the meals, workouts, PRs, body measurements, and progress already in the app. Spot connects what you did with how your body is responding before recommending next steps.
Does Spot make decisions for me?
No. Spot recommends. You decide. You can accept, edit, or ignore recommendations.
Is Refactor Fitness medical advice?
No. Refactor Fitness is not a medical service, dietitian, licensed trainer, or guaranteed-results program. See the health disclaimer in our Terms of Use.
What is included for free?
Free users can log unlimited nutrition and workouts, with a limit of 3 workout templates.
What is included in Refactor Pro?
Refactor Pro unlocks Spot AI coaching, unlimited workout templates, Progress Tab features including analytics and body measurements, daily AI reports, and 300 AI messages per week. Spot analyzes meals, workouts, PRs, body measurements, and progress together before recommending next steps.
How much does Refactor Pro cost?
Refactor Pro is $14.99 per month or $119.99 per year in the United States; Canadian pricing is shown in your local store. A 14-day free trial is available for new subscribers.
Where is Refactor Fitness available?
Refactor Fitness is available in the United States and Canada through the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. Public APK downloads are not available to customers. We're focused on the US and Canada for now and may expand to other regions as we grow.
Is Refactor Fitness mainly for runners or cardio athletes?
No. Refactor can track cardio, but it is not primarily built for running plans, endurance coaching, class-style training, or race-specific programs.
Why is it called Refactor Fitness?
The name comes from software engineering. The founder is a former MAANG software engineering leader and lifelong fitness enthusiast. In software, to refactor code means to restructure it so it is easier to maintain, works better, and performs better.
Refactor Fitness applies the same idea to training and nutrition: organize the important pieces, see what is working, and make better adjustments over time.
How does Refactor Fitness handle health data?
Refactor provides public privacy and health-data policies. Start with the Privacy Policy and Health Data Privacy Notice.
AI features & your data
What are Refactor's AI features?
They are powered by Spot, the in-app assistant: Spot chat coaching, AI-generated workouts and programs, daily briefings, meal-photo macro estimates, workout-from-photo import (reading a photo of a written workout into a workout template), and AI-suggested adjustments to your targets. AI features are part of Refactor Pro.
Are AI features on by default?
No. AI features are off until you turn them on, and you can turn them off again at any time in Profile > Settings > AI Feature Consent. Turning them off does not affect your Pro subscription or any non-AI feature.
What data does Refactor send to the AI?
Only what the feature you are using needs: your message to Spot plus the minimum fitness and nutrition data to answer it, such as recent logs, goals, or measurements. We do not send your account password, payment details, or device identifiers. Photos you submit for a feature (meal-scan photos for macro estimation and workout photos for importing a written workout) are processed only during analysis and then deleted; we do not keep them.
Where does my data go, and is it used to train AI models?
AI requests go only to large language models hosted inside AWS Bedrock, in the United States. Your data does not leave AWS, is not retained by the model, and is never used to train or fine-tune any AI model.
How do I turn AI features off?
Open Profile > Settings > AI Feature Consent and switch them off. That immediately stops any new data from being sent. Withdrawing health-data consent (Profile > Settings > Privacy) also turns AI features off, since they rely on your health data.
What personal information we collect
What categories of personal information does Refactor collect?
We collect the categories below, in each case to provide and improve the Service you requested. This table is the formal "right to know" disclosure under California Civil Code §1798.140 that our Privacy Policy references. Categories in italics are also "consumer health data" under the Washington My Health My Data Act and "sensitive personal information" under the CCPA, and are described in greater detail in our Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy.

| Sensory data | Meal-scan photos you submit for AI macro estimation are uploaded to a dedicated, non-versioned cloud bucket for the duration of the AI analysis and then deleted; we do not retain them after analysis. Who processes your data
Who does Refactor share data with?
Refactor shares data only with the service providers below, each only as necessary to run the app and under contracts that prohibit them from using your data for their own purposes. We do not share data with advertisers, ad networks, social media platforms, or data brokers.
